Here's my first attempt at translating Filipino song lyrics to English ones. This was done for my dear friend [livejournal.com profile] knittedninja. I will only be putting up my english translations here (since I'm too tired to copy and paste the Filipino lyrics XD) that I have written up myself (so it may not be that accurate, ok?). If taking/posting to another place, please give credit to me, [livejournal.com profile] apathymoon. How? Just provide a link back to my LJ (http://apathymoon.livejournal.com). If any of you have song translation requests (NOTE: I only do Filipino --> English and English --> Filipino translations), feel free to comment here and I will do it for you. :3 And Remember, Eraserheads = ♥

Ang Huling El Bimbo (The Last El Bimbo)

(NOTE: The song is narrated in first person but in the lyrics, some lines didn't include I... but to make the lyrics understandable, and the singer pertains to himself anyway, I used "I" as the subject for those lines. The translation does not rhyme with the song if you sing with this, so this is just a verbatim.)

You looked like Paraluman*
Back when we were still young
And you dance very, very well
May it be boogie or cha-cha.
But my favorite is your dancing of El Bimbo
makes me groove, makes me crazy, gives me goosebumps

After coming from school, I will be heading to your home
And the whole afternoon, you are teaching me..

Our hands are holding each other, and I was not cognizant
That you have taught my heart how to love genuinely

My body freezes when the disc plays**
Dead on with the sway of your hips, and the languidness of your eyes

Life lightens up while we hold each other
and my hand slowly slips from your smooth arms, ooh..

How I wish I should have told it to you long ago
Even if it's not popular anymore, this is what I only know, oooh..

Our hands are holding each other, and I was not cognizant
That you have taught my heart how to love genuinely

Lalalalalalalalalala...

Many years have passed, we didn't see each other
I heard that you have a child but do not have a spouse
You were a dishwasher in Ermita***
And one night, you were run over in a dark alley, ah...

All of my aspirations suddenly melted
It is only in my dreams where I can dance with you

Our hands are holding each other, and I was not cognizant
That you have taught my heart how to love genuinely..

Our hands are holding each other, and I was not cognizant
That you have taught my heart how to love genuinely.

Lalalalalalalalalala...
Lalalalalalalalalala...
Lalalalalalalalalala...

* Paraluman - a popular female actress in the Philippines during 1940s
**in the lyrics, it is "umikot" which means "rotate, but I think "play" would be more suitable for the disc.
***Ermita A street in Manila, Philippines.
